Marita Breuer studied acting at the Folkwang Hochschule. Her method is closely oriented to the Stanislawski method. Marita Breuer had her first theatre engagement at the Stadttheater Giessen. Later she worked with famous directors on different big stages: amongst others, she played Petrowna in „Ein Monat auf dem Lande" by Turgenjew, directed by Horst Wede, and the Fräuin Strindberg's „Gespenstersonate", directed by Ernst Wendt, both at the Schauspielhaus Köln, Elektra in Aischylos' "Orestaged by Hansünther Heyme at the Aalto-Theater Essen, the Kristin in "Fräulein Julie von Strindberg", directed by Roswita Kemper at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. From 2000 to 2005, she was a permanent member of the company at the Stadttheater Aachen.
Besides her work at the theatre, she repeatedly had roles in cinema and TV films. She became publicly well-known in 1984 as the role of Maria Simon in the first part of the trilogy by Edgar Reitz for which she received the award Bayerischer Filmpreis and the award DeutDarstellerpreis (German Actor's Award). In 2002, she directed for the first time herself in the ARTE documentary "Abenteuer Gottes".
